Kingdom of Fife

There are many wonderful places in the world to play golf, but there is only one Kingdom of Golf - the home and heart of the Royal and Ancient game. That Kingdom is the Kingdom of Fife, with Scotland's ancient capital of Dunfermline and the golfing Mecca of St Andrews at its heart. There are 47 golf courses on this small peninsula just over the world-famous Forth Bridges from Edinburgh, and they all offer visitors a warm welcome.

Golf has been a way of life in Fife for 500 years. Where else can you play a New Course that is now over a hundred years old? (It had to be called New when it was laid out in 1895 to distinguish it from its neighbour the Old Course which - so it seemed-had been there for ever). And just a few miles along the coast are Kingsbarns, which opened to worldwide acclaim when the Millennium Open was played at St Andrews in 2000, and the two marvellous new courses at St Andrews Bay. And at the west end of Fife, near Dunfermline, is the new Forrester Park resort which provides a rolloing parkland contrasts to the links course of the East Neuk and St Andrews.

Between west and east are a host of courses to delight and challenge golfers of all tastes and abilities. Fife Council's 7 municipal courses offer variety and excellent value for the budget-conscious, even more so with the Council's Fifestyle ticket. Lundin Ladies Golf Club welcome visitors - men and women, boys and girls - to the only ladies' club course in the country. The Elie Sports Club and Balgove courses were both designed with youngsters in mind, and courses like Anstruther, Cupar, Falkland, Saline, St Michaels and Thornton all provide the kind of informal, scenic, and inexpensive family golf that make lasting holiday memories.

If you are looking for a stiffer test, the Open Qualifying courses of Leven, Lundin Links, Ladybank and Scotscraig provide it in abundance, and on traditional links and heathland courses of the very highest standard. Likewise, a day's golf at Crail Golfing Society (the seventh oldest golf club in the world) is hard to beat, with their sweeping new Craighead course alongside the much-loved Balcomie Links.

The Kingdom of Fife is indeed the Home of Golf - it's in the air, and it's addictive. Golf here is everyone's game, so - whether you are on your 1st visit or your 51st - you will be at home on our course and be made very welcome
