Perthshire ... Pure Golfing Pleasure!

Perthshire is the perfect golfing escape whether it's for a weekend or a fortnight and is one of Scotland's most remarkable and scenic areas. Here you can enjoy some of the finest inland golf in the World! With 40 golf courses to choose from … you'll be spoilt for choice!

Perthshire has a long golfing heritage, indeed it is purported, though unsubstantiated, that the game was played here whilst Perth was the capital of Scotland in the 14th century. It is also ironic that James IV of Scotland, who tried to ban the game as it conflicted with archery practice, made the first recorded purchase of golfing equipment - a set of clubs from a Bow Maker in Perth in 1502! Perth is also home to the oldest club in the world to hold a royal charter, which was granted by William IV in 1833 to the Royal Perth Golfing Society, a year before that of the Royal and Ancient.

This golfing legacy and recent course developments ensures that there is a wide range of options for golfers of all ages and abilities. Choose from scenic Highland layouts, idyllic parkland settings, world famous centres such as Gleneagles and Rosemount at Blairgowrie and many 'hidden gems' spread throughout the area. The main challenge won't be navigating your way successfully around the course, more keeping your eye on the ball amidst stunning surroundings as you play into the long and balmy summer evenings.

Perthshire is also an excellent golfing holiday base as there are over 60 further courses in surrounding Angus, Dundee and the Kingdom of Fife including St. Andrews and Carnoustie, all of which are within one hour's drive. The accommodation service from our Tourist Information Centres can suggest the perfect place to relax for your next golf holiday or short break!

If the above was not enough to tempt you to Perthshire, why not consider our two great-value golf discount schemes the Perthshire Green Card and the Perthshire Highlands Golf Ticket. Find out more by clicking on the special offers section on the right of this page.
